The younger one is developmentally challenged, and has brushes with the law and has debts because of his actions and his friends, but also needs to take care of his older sibling. When the boys' grandmother dies the brothers lose their home and are destitute and stay with a friend's friend and while the younger man is looking for a job things are bad enough that they still use the older brother to conduct some of their dirty work reckoning his illness shields him from the police, jail and the legal system.
